In Irish tradition, each stitch has its own meaning: the cable resembles the nets and ropes of the fishermen, being a symbol of good luck; the Trellis represents protection and the stone-walled fields in the Northwestern Irish farming communities and the honeycomb is an ode to hard work and its sweet rewards.
